The 'Complete' HTC Sense Won't Be On Windows Phone 7 At Launch

HTC's Beloved Custom UI Won't Entirely Be On Their First Batch Of WP7 Devices

Microsoft is implementing some strict UI requirements for Windows Phone 7, leading to speculation that HTC won’t be able to put their beloved (by some) custom UI, HTC Sense on new devices with Windows Phone 7. HTC put those worries to rest some months back, saying that Sense will be on the devices. But now, HTC’s CEO said that the “complete” Sense won’t be on the phones at launch.

Talking to website FierceWireless.com, HTC’s CEO Peter Chou said:

Initially, we don’t have time to bring things on top of that. I don’t think we would do complete Sense UI on Windows Phone 7.

HTC’s Sense UI, as most of our readers are aware, made it’s start on HTC’s Windows Mobile phones. It most famously was included on their Android phones where it has found a fanbase. Some people have taken to porting HTC Sense to non-HTC phones or (in the case of the Nexus One), adding it to phones that didn’t have it.

Since HTC uses third-party software (Windows Phone/Android), the company looks for ways to differentiate themselves. Their hardware, often considered one of the best handset makers in the world, is one way, but the unique HTC Sense is another way the company likes to stand out from the gathering of WP7/Android developers. Obviously, not having complete HTC Sense on a WP7 may be a big deal for them.
