It looks like Sprint has at least one more update for those sporting the Samsung Moment. And before anyone gets super excited, this is not Android 2.2, but instead a maintenance update. That said, maintenance updates can still be a nice thing to receive.
In terms of this, Sprint has announced the availability by way of the Sprint user forums and the update is reportedly being rolled out as you read this. As for the changes and corrections, three fixes in total which are as follows;
- Airplane Mode issue
- Skyfire browser power cycle issue
- Adds Select All option to Bulk Bluetooth contact push
In terms of getting this update, that is over the air only. And similar to most other OTA updates, this one is rolling out in stages which means you may be waiting for a day or so before you see the notification arrive.
With that, there are a few things worth mentioning. First, your Moment must be on software version DE03 in order to have this install properly. For those who are on CJ05 or CL14, according to the posting from Sprint;
“you will need to update using the customer facing upgrade tool that will be posted on Sprint.com/downloads or Samsung’s website.”
Otherwise, the update is listed as being software version S:M900.8.OS.DI06. The update is listed as needing approximately 7-8 minutes to download and another 7-8 minutes to install. That said, I would expect to take more than 16 minutes, but you may get lucky.
In regards to these fixes, after speaking with a Moment owner, that first one sounds like it will be the most welcomed. I have had them tell me that the phone would randomly set itself to Airplane mode and sometimes need a reboot before leaving and returning to normal. Worst part, this happened randomly.
And as with any software upgrade, I would suggest making sure your important data is backed up before you begin — just in case.
