Orb's MP-1 Shows Off Orb's Hardware Capability
You might already be familiar with the folks out at Orb, who are at least somewhat well known for their streaming capability. But apparently, they’re looking to get a foot in the hardware door too (and looking at it, it actually makes some sense) with the Orb MP-1.
The Orb MP-1 measures in at just 3.28 inches, but the disc packs some interesting features despite its small size. It comes with Wi-Fi in b, g, or n and a 3.5mm audio output.
The operations here are fairly simple–just register the MP-1 (you can actually have several going at once) with the Orb Caster software (and it works equally well with Mac and PC), hook it to a powered speaker array via the 3.5mm output, and you get, basically, the equivalent of Sonos gear. You can play local content, streams from Sirius or any internet radio station, and there are a lot of them out there.
While the Orb Caster is a free download from either Apple’s App Store or the Android Market, the MP-1 itself goes for $69. So if you’re looking for a cheaper version of Sonos that’ll still put out the music, then you might want a better look at that.
