Next Xbox Release Date? Years Away. [Microsoft UK Boss Confirms That We Won't See The "Nextbox" For A Long Time, Everybody Completely Shocked]
Microsoft’s Xbox UK boss Stephen McGill has been doing the media circuit lately. After chatting with Xbox360Achievements about the future of Blu-Ray on the Xbox 360, they asked him about how long we can expect to see the Xbox 360 supported by Microsoft. McGill’s answer wasn’t really shocking. The Xbox 360 is here to stay for a while.

The Xbox 360 has now lasted longer than the original Xbox at this point. Both Sony and Microsoft promised ten-year lifecycles on their consoles when they launched, but hardware manufacturers will often abandon those lifecycles in order to generate consumer excitement over a new console. However, the economic recession of the past few years probably makes it likely that this console generation may be one of the longest lasting ever.
McGill didn’t touch upon the economic issue, instead sticking to the company line of “I think there’s still a lot of legs left with the Xbox 360.” McGill went on to say that, “Well this generation is here for a long, long time. … [We're] years away from contemplating what comes next.”
McGill offered all the new features added to the Xbox Live platform and the upcoming Kinect hardware as reasons why the Xbox 360 will continue to live on. The Xbox 360 got a complete product refresh this year with the new S (or Slim) retail SKU. While the processing specs inside are the same, the console has gotten a great new look.
How many more years do you think the Xbox 360 has left in her? Will you buy a Kinect for your Xbox 360? Sound off in our comments section.
