Toshiba & Best Buy Announce Satellite L635 Kids Notebook [Toshiba Satellite L635 Notebook Designed With Kids in Mind, Will Feature 13.3" Display, Dual-Core Celeron P4600 CPU & $499 Price Tag]

Sometimes good things come from collaborations, and I am thinking this is one of those times. The collaboration is between Best Buy and Toshiba who have recently announced a new notebook designed with kids in mind. And refreshingly, this notebook not only looks pretty decent, but it also has decent specs. In other words, they did not dumb it down for the kids.

The model is the Satellite L635 and it is a 13.3 inch notebook. The feature set includes a dual-core Intel Celeron P4600 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, DVD optical drive and a total weight of 4.2 pounds.

So far the specs read just like a regular grown up notebook. Of course, there are a bunch of kid specific goodies though, and those come in with the software and external casing. Though, in terms of the casing, while it seems to have been made with a messy kid in mind, it could easily apply to a messy adult.

In terms of the software, that will include programs such as Net Nanny for parental control, the KidZui’s browser, two Disney movies and some games including LEGO Batman. Ok, so maybe some of that software can apply to adults as well.

In terms of the casing, the notebook itself is described as being “gender neutral.” In reality it is grey with some neon green accents. But more important than the color is that the notebook has a “unique” wipeable keyboard and a no-gloss Dura-cross textured finish to keep those fingerprints away.

With that, those interested can expect the Satellite L635 Kid’s PC to arrive with Best Buy (and Best Buy only) on September 26th. As for the pricing — $499. Bottom line here, aside from the kid friendly browser and parental control software, this could make for a nice low priced notebook for adults.
