Motorola Flipout Headed To US By Holiday [Motorola Promises Us That Their Wacky Android Phone Is Coming This Year, Despite AT&T Going Mission: Impossible]
A few people were shocked this week when AT&T corporate suddenly and unexpectedly ordered all retail stores to destroy marketing information related to the Motorola Flipout. You see, the entry-level Android phone was rumored to be launching on AT&T this past weekend, and it has already launched in Canada and other places. But Motorola assured the public the Android phone is still coming to the United States.

While Motorola didn’t comment on the rumored release date mess or AT&T’s strange Mission: Impossible-esque company orders (“This message will self-destruct in five seconds.”), they did reach out to Engdaget Mobile and inform the guys there that the Motorola Flipout will arrive in the United States before the holiday season.
Motorola didn’t get specific with Engagdet, nor did they share which carriers the phone would be going too. Your guess is as good as ours, but AT&T seems to be a popular choice among the tech blog circuit.
It’s interesting to note that Motorola’s developer page lists the Motorola Flipout coming with quad-band GSM and 3G bands for Europe, AT&T and T-Mobile US. Nothing like that has been seen in the United States, so unless we spot anything going through the FCC, looks like just AT&T will be getting this device sooner, rather than later, and before the holiday season.
Just to recap, the Motorola Flipout has a crazy keyboard design that swings around the back of the screen. It’s got a 2.8-inch screen, it’s running Android 2.1 and has a 600MHz processor. As mentioned, it is an entry-level device and should be priced accordingly.
