Google Docs Editing Coming To The iPad & Android Devices

Google Preparing To Launch Two-Step Verification & Bring Document Editing To The iPad & Android

It looks like Google is getting ready to launch a few new features in terms of Google Docs such as document editing on the iPad and Android devices as well as a new two-step verification process that will bring added security to Google Apps accounts.

The news is coming by way of the Google Atmosphere event which is currently taking place in Paris. And for those not familiar with this event, is is described as being “dedicated to cloud computing” and showing “web-based applications that are built on shared infrastructure and delivered through the browser.” Of course, just like with many other company events, things tend to get kicked off with the announcement of some milestones as far as the company is concerned and maybe a little teasing of new features to come. In this case, Google announced that;

“As of today, more than 3 million businesses have gone Google, and over 30 million users within businesses, schools and organizations now depend on our messaging and collaboration tools.”

But perhaps a little more important to the end-user, or more specifically, to the end-user sporting an iPad or Android device — document editing within Google Docs is coming, though as of now it was simply described as being “soon” and in the “coming weeks.” And while a little more specific of a time frame would have been nice, the confirmation is nice enough. According to the details on document editing;

“In the next few weeks, co-workers around the world will soon be able to co-edit files simultaneously from an even wider array of devices.”

Moving on past document editing and we also have word of a new two-step verification process for Google Apps account, which is also said to be coming “soon” for some and immediately for others. In terms of this new login procedure, based on what we have read it looks like it will be immediately available for Google Apps Premier, Education and Government Edition accounts and will have to be turned on by your administrator. In short, this new two-step login process is said to be coming as a way to “help fend off risks like phishing scams and password reuse.” And for those using a Standard Edition Google account, worry not because that is said to also be coming for you as well.
