BlackBerry Storm 3 Caught By Spycam
The website BerryReview was sent some secret spycam photos of the BlackBerry Storm3, which it quickly published. The phone in question is packing a big 3.7-inch screen and some are guessing that RIM has abandoned its SurePress technology for this next new Storm phone.

Both the first Storm and the Storm 2 offered modest 3.2-inch screens, which are small when compared to the crop of 3.7-inch phones (iPhone, original Droid, Droid Incredible, etc. etc.) and tiny when compared to the supersized 4.3-inch phones. It’ be nice to see RIM join the year 2010 by offering a bigger 3.7-inch screen.
In addition to the larger screen, BerryReview’s tipster tells them that it will have 8GB of internal memory as well as mobile WiFi hotspot connectivity.
For those who don’t know, the Storm brand is RIM’s attempt at a “iPhone killer” type phone. The first two weren’t popular with either the BlackBerry crowd or the general smartphone audience. RIM’s “SurePress” technology that attempted to recreate a hardware keyboard on a virtual keyboard was technically impressive and pretty innovative. One small detail – consumers hated it. The Torch 9800 dumped the SurePress screen and now, pundits in the BlackBerry community are estimating that this “Storm 3″ will dump the SurePress screen (based on how the screen looks).
Some thought that the Torch 9800 running BlackBerry OS 6 (on AT&T) would be RIM’s “iPhone Killer”. I’m not sure that’s how RIM thought of the device, but that’s what it was tagged as in the tech blog circuit. According to analyst estimates, the Torch 9800 has been doing poorly in sales and is mostly being purchased by existing BlackBerry users as upgrades.
Let’s hope that the Storm 3 does a little bit better for RIM.
