Google Voice for iPhone Finally Approved; Hell Freezes Over, Again

Apple Approved Google Voice for iPhone Following Its Recent App Store Regulations Changes]

The unthinkable has been… well, thought! Google finally has another application for iPhone users. Google Voice, an app that caused so much controversy in the very recent past, has been approved by Apple, and I’m sure they still the folks at Cupertino hate themselves for having to approve Google Voice for iPhone.

Although in all honesty we’re not looking at the full, official Google Voice app, the one that has been banned by Apple a while ago and convinced the FCC to open an investigation, (which was never finalized, was it?) on the whole app approval process. So hell hasn’t completely frozen over yet. The app available today in the App Store is called GV Connect, but it’s still a step forward for Google as GV Connect is basically Google Voice with a different name. Of course some iPhone customers have been using Google Voice for a while, as a web app, but those days are gone now that Google Voice applications are allowed in the App Store.

Once you pay the $2.99 (which means Apple is, ironically, making money off it too) you’ll be able to enjoy all the features and perks of Google Voice right on the iPhone. In case you’re an avid Google Voice user then you’d better get this application right now. Who knows how long it will be before Apple decides to change its rules and regulations around the App Store and its approval process.

Apple is currently under scrutiny as the FTC, the EU Commission and the Department of Justice are all investigating Apple for various reasons and it will have to play nice with developers when it comes to the App Store. That doesn’t mean that more fart apps are going to be easily approved by the App Store team, but considering Apple’s current lax rules and regulations your app might make it to the App Store a lot easier than before. Not that we’re advising you to develop shady apps this time of year and hope to get them past Apple’s approval team or anything like that!

But getting back to Google Voice now, a must-have application for lots of iPhone customers out there, let us know how GV Connect works for you in case you have already downloaded the app on your iPhone.
