Froyo On Sony Ericsson Xperia X10? No Way

All Current Sony Ericsson Android Smartphones Getting The Upgrade To Android 2.2 Froyo

Do you own a Sony Ericsson Android phone? Were you expecting Android 2.2 Froyo? I hope not, because a recently leaked Android roadmap from Sony Ericsson shows that the mobile giant has no plans to upgrade the phone to Android 2.2. Any phone, that is, including the variants of the X10 and the smaller X8.

The leaked Android roadmap (in German, shown above) shows no plans for Sony to update the X10 models and the X8 phone to the latest version of Android. Not only is this disappointing for owners of these phones, but it’s a bit odd, since Sony has vowed to be the #1 Android manufacturer in the world.

One common complaint for the first Xperia X10 was that it was running Android 1.6 when Android 2.0 phones were starting to come out here in the ‘States (namely the Motorola Droid). While it has been confirmed that the phones will eventually be getting an update to Android 2.1 Eclair, but judging by this leaked German roadmap (if it’s too be believed), you can’t expect another update.

While the different versions of Android are important for app compatibility, I’d argue that it probably matters the least on a Sony Ericsson phone. They’re so heavily modified with the custom UI and TimeScape that it’s almost hard to tell it’s Android.

Although the Xperia X8 mid-range Android phone is a pretty recent Android phone, it isn’t clear what further plans Sony has for Android. Again, they’re reiterated their desire to be the #1 Android manufacturer, so they must be working on something big for the next generation of ph0nes.

and none of you reacts to the fact that the so called roadmap looks alot like an advertisement flyer with planned changes for 2010? You seriously think their internal and secret roadmap would be laying around like that when it most likely never leaves their office?

That’s incredible. Why would anyone still buy a Experia knowing this. Let me predict that the next SE phone sales will be a dissapointment. The looks are great, the hardware is fast, the SE UI is slick and the price is competitive, but customers look the other way. I’m predicting the plain vanilla Android LG’s will soon outsell SE. But I should be outta here. In need to quickly sell my X10 before the X10 second hand market collapses.
