Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Service Coming To 30 Cities In 2010
Ah, 4G mobile data. The speeds sound enticing, though truth be told it is not yet available in a good amount of cities. That said, Verizon is said to be prepping a 30 city rollout that is expected to be completed before the end of this year. Yup, Verizon should have 4G LTE in 30 cities in 2010.

And while that sounds like great news, at least it will for those 30 cities — there are a few catches. First and foremost, at this time they have not announced which cities are on that list of 30. Instead they have described it as being 30 National Football League Cities.” Granted, those who are football fans will likely be able to venture a relatively educated guess. But that is about as far as the details are concerned.
Furthermore, the remainder of the US is expected to be blanketed in Verizon LTE by 2013. Of course, the LTE rollout will continue in gradual stages beginning from when those 30 NFL cities are finished.
“The remainder of the country will get this 4G service in stages until the entire nation has access to Verizon Wireless’ 4G network by 2013, according to Bernie McMonagle, a Verizon senior federal sales executive.”
The only other clue in regards to that 30 city list came in the form of a comment that described them as being major metropolitan areas. And if you are not all that happy with not knowing the planned cities, you may not like this next part either.
According to Bernie McMonagle, a Verizon senior federal sales executive, the initial rollout will likely end up being used by wireless laptop cards as opposed to smartphones given that LTE smartphones are currently in short supply.
Lastly, for those itching to know the speeds to expect, those were noted as being anywhere from 5Mbps to 12Mbps for downloads and 2Mbps to 5Mbps for uploads. And those would go along with a latency of 30 to 150 milliseconds. In other words, similar to what current Sprint 4G users are seeing.
