Motorola Droid X Out of Stock; Still No Froyo Mentioned

New Motorola Droid X Customers Have to Wait Until September 23 For Their Android Handset

The Motorola Droid X is definitely one of the best Android phones we’ve seen this summer. It’s right up there with the HTC EVO 4G, the Motorola Droid 2, the Samsung Galaxy S and the newly announced HTC Desire HD. But the Droid X seems to have just a little edge on its direct rivals and it’s definitely an adequate candidate for the iPhone 4-killer award.

To prove that we can show you this particular screenshot that says the Droid X is on backorder until September 23. Sure, waiting a week for the device is definitely not bad, but I bet there are plenty of potential Droid X buyers that aren’t happy with this 1-week of extra waiting.

On the other hand, Motorola, unlike a certain competitor that always brags with sales performance and numbers in the millions, has never said how many Droid X, or Droid 2 units for that matter, has sold since launch. This isn’t the first time we see the Droid X out of stock but since nobody will show us any official numbers yet we could also assume that Motorola isn’t really making that many Droid X handsets in the first place. So how is the Droid X demand, Moto?

Moving on to more important matters, it looks like Motorola and Verizon are yet to release the Droid X Froyo update. Just the other day we noticed the first Froyo instructions for the Droid X but the free OTA update isn’t rolling out yet. You’d think that with almost 30% of all smartphones out there running Android 2.2 that Motorola and Verizon would hurry to release the Droid X Froyo update, but this isn’t the case unfortunately.

So, will you wait a week for your Droid X or would you go for a different Android flagship smartphone? Maybe one that’s already running Froyo?

I ordered my Droid X on the 10th of September, at which point it said that it would be shipped on the 21st, and received it on the 13th. I am not so sure that they are actually shipping them late, I think they are just saying that it will be shipped late, and are shipping them whenever they can.

    2. Les says:

Received my X last week around the same time they said it would arrive. Do I lose sleep over the delay of Froyo? No. The phone works great and is a fun piece of equipment. I can wait.
