Dead Rising 2: Case West Coming To Xbox 360
As Capcom announced a few days ago, Dead Rising: Case Zero has been doing really really well. Case Zero is a downloadable “prologue” to the upcoming full game Dead Rising 2. Case Zero is a standalone downloadable game that has original story content and lets you take your character progress from Case Zero to Dead Rising 2. It’s just $5 and it’s sold 500,000 copies in two weeks, Capcom says, making it a record setter for Xbox Live Arcade games. Capcom is following up on that with another download-only game.

The next game will take place after Dead Rising 2, a “epilogue” if you will. It’ll called Dead Rising 2: Case West and will feature Frank West, the player character of the first Dead Rising game fighting along side Chuck Greene, the hero from Dead Rising 2. Capcom is light on details, but you’ve got assume that Case West will be released after Dead Rising 2 comes out. Got to imagine it’ll be $5 too, since Capcom won’t want to mess with success.
This game will be another Xbox 360 exclusive, just like Case Zero, even though Dead Rising 2 is also coming out for the PlayStation 3 and PC. Dead Rising boss Keiji Inafune said during the Capcom Tokyo Game Show event, “Apologies to PS3 fans, but this too will be an Xbox 360 exclusive.”
Will these little bite-sized add-ons become a big hit in the game industry? DLC is nothing new, of course, but these little games are standalone titles, sort of like paid demos with original content and some extra features. We’re actually really fond of Case Zero here at the TFTS offices, so we wouldn’t mind more things like this. Until EA and Activison screw it up by charging $20 for awful crap.
