Samsung Continuum Spotted In Verizon Inventory

New Samsung Smartphone Headed For Verizon Is Supposed To Be A Cheap Android Phone, But Is It Really Packing Windows Phone 7?

The folks at Phandroid have gotten some insider photos of Verizon’s inventory system. While we’ve seen proof of things like the Motorola tablet and what not, something new has emerged, and it’s being dubbed the Samsung Continuum.

Multiple sites have reported that the Samsung Continuum will be a “mid-range” (or cheap) Android phone. Think: Droid Eris. It certainly makes sense as Verizon as established themselves as the Android carrier of choice (T-Mobile might disagree though), but what if it isn’t an Android phone at all?

We’re hearing some discussion that the Samsung Continuum could be in fact one of the first batch of Windows Phone 7 devices headed for Verizon. We know that Samsung will be making WP7 phones, and rumors say that all major carriers will have a device – so it seems plasuible that the Continuum could be a WP7 device.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the Continuum was a low-priced Android device. Back at CTIA 2010, we heard a lot of discussion about several new lowcost SoC smartphone platforms that were optmized for Android and were aiming for a sub-$100 price. It’s possible that we’ll see a lot more cheap Android phones going forward.

Whether or not anybody will want to use them is another thing entirely.
