Samsung Fascinate (Galaxy S) Froyo Update to Bring Google Search Back Where It Belongs
Way to go Verizon when it comes to sticking it to Google! That was a clearly a dumb, childish, idiotic, weird marketing move to make Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, the default, and only choice, on the newly launched Samsung Fascinate, a smartphone powered by Google’s Android. Talk about the use of an open source OS. And way to go Samsung, for allowing such nonsense!

So what’s the reason behind that move? Is Microsoft willing to share some of that mobile search revenue with Big Red? Probably that’s the only reason why Verizon would replace Google Search, which happens to be the official king of Internet searching even if it pains me to admit such a thing about a Google product. That’s right, Google isn’t perfect either here and, the more services they offer on the long run, the more questions you’d have to ask yourself when it comes to trusting the same company with so many different services. But I digress.
Verizon just proved that, for the right amount of cash, it will do pretty much anything. So the Verizon – Google partnership can’t be that strong if Big Red is willing to replace Google Search, of all services, with Bing. So it only seems logical that Verizon will have no problem making the iPhone the next flagship phone if that move would bring more revenue, even if that means shifting resources and attention from Android in the process.
At the end of the day, these are just business and marketing decisions, and every company should be entitled to do as it pleases when it comes to its products and services. The only problem here is that not everyone will want to Bing for stuff while on the go. And while we’re at it, how come did Verizon insist on the Fascinate with Bing capabilities? I’m just asking since the Galaxy S has been available from AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint way before Verizon got it. So the customers looking for a Galaxy S version in the U.S. might already have theirs in which case it’s not a Fascinate, but a Vibrant, Captivate or Epic 4G. That means Verizon might have lost some serious Bing-related search-based revenues. Or is the Fascinate just an experiment when it comes to Bing inclusion?
So what say you, Fascinate owners, do you like Bing or would you Google Search instead? Well the good news is that you’ll finally get Google Search access on the Fascinate as soon as the Froyo update hits Galaxy S devices. The bad news is that we have no idea when any of the Galaxy S flavors out there, including the Fascinate, will get the Android 2.2 Froyo update, even if rumors say we’ll see it arrive in September.
Oh, and how about all those other issues?

Who cares whether the search engine used is Bing or Google? I find that they work about the same in almost all cases. Can someone explain the big deal? More importantly, I need the ability to sync Hotmail with the Fascinate. When will this be available?
