Qualcomm Releasing 1.5GHz Snapdragon Processor Debuting in Latter 2011
Excitement can do many things and this includes announcements concerning techie stuff. Unfortunately Qualcomm made a big booboo when CEO Paul Jacobs bared that their new 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor would be in shelved by the first quarter of 2011.
While it will come in 2011, it will not be the first quarter but most probably the last quarter.
Rather, the 1.2GHz chip of Qualcomm is actually the one that is currently being sampled to manufacturers.
The MSM8260 and MSM8660 processers will each get dual-core application processors while also providing support for 1080p HD video encoding and decoding.
They will also come with 3D/2D engines for Open GLES 2.0 and Open VG 1.1 acceleration.
So don’t be surprised not to find the 1.5GHz Snapdragon processors. You have a full year (or maybe even more) to wait for their coming.
The chip is expected to go out to OEMs in the last quarter of 2010.
It will go through the various stages of testing before it is officially released in the market.
