OnStar Looks To Ally With Facebook

Soon You Can Make Updates To Your Facebook Status From OnStar

It hasn’t exactly been a great couple years for GM, though depending on who you ask some believe it’s been better than others, but you’ve got to give them credit for not giving up. And as such, they’re looking to bring new features to OnStar, supported by no less than Facebook.

Now there’s a whole new way to distract yourself from the fact that you’re in command of a half-ton or more or slightly less piece of machinery containing several gallons of flammable material going at several miles per hour–by updating your Facebook status from your OnStar controls.

Basically, what GM wants to do is open up the possibility of using audio recordings to update users’ Facebook status, and by like token, to use OnStar to read off other people’s Facebook status updates as well as their news feeds. Now you’ll never have to go more than a few minutes without knowing, as soon as it updates, just what LonelyGirl15 had for breakfast. Similar tech will even allow you to send audio text messages and receive them while you drive.

Look, I’m no technoprude–I keep up with my friends’ Facebooks–but while you drive? That might be just a bit too much even for me.
