BlackBerry App World Surpasses 10,000 Mobile Applications
The mobile operating system industry has quickly become saturated with several high quality competitors. Some big names that you’re sure to have seen quite frequently include Google’s Android, Apple’s iOS and Microsoft’s forthcoming Windows Phone 7.

However, while these platforms have been generating quite the media buzz, they are obviously not the only ones available on the market. Research in Motion’s recently released BlackBerry 6, for instance, is quite popular with enterprise consumers which can be said about its previous versions.
With so many platforms on the market, it’s getting increasingly difficult for a consumer to choose which route to take. While just about all of these mobile operating systems are completely capable (besides maybe Windows Mobile) the end decision is largely becoming based on what software is available for any given platform.
Apple introduced with iOS 2.0 (then iPhone OS) the App Store which gave consumers the ability to purchase and download innovative, fun and useful applications. After this service was deemed a success, competing mobile OS developers duplicated the idea with their own offerings. Android came with it the Android Marketplace and webOS the App Catalog and BlackBerry 6 the App World.
Every one of these above mentioned mobile application stores feature their fair share of unique and exciting offerings. However, seeing how Apple’s App Store launched first it’s no surprise that it is in a clear lead in terms of software numbers. However, due to the recent spike in Android popularity, the Android marketplace is quickly making strides looking to give the App Store a run for its money.
BlackBerry App World, on the other hand, is viewed by some as still being in its infancy. However, Research in Motion has announced today that the application store has managed to surpass 10,000 different applications available for download.
While this may seem like a drop in a bucket compared to the App Store’s 250,000+ mobile applications, it’s certainly a step in the right direction for the platform – not to mention a very enticing selling point for potential buyers.
