Best Buy Announces Upcoming Amazon Kindle Availability

It looks like Amazon is making yet another push at getting the Kindle into retail stores. Of course, they are already able to be found in Target, but something a little more geared to electronics certainly would not hurt. Enter this latest announcement, which comes by way of Best Buy and Amazon — the Kindle will arrive in Best Buy retail stores this fall.

As to which Kindle models you can expect to find, initially that will include the 3G and Wi-Fi Kindle as well as the Wi-Fi only Kindle. And by that we are referring to the latest model, the third generation Kindle. In terms of the larger Kindle DX, that is expected to be available with Best Buy, but not until sometime “later in the season.”

Otherwise, the Kindle models will retain the same pricing as found directly with Amazon. In other words, you can still expect to pay $139 for the Wi-Fi only model and $189 for the Kindle 3G.

The nice part here is that those interested in picking up an ebook reader will actually be able to make some side by side comparisons. After all, Best Buy also carries the Barnes & Noble nook and the Sony Reader lineup as well as some other less known models. Of course, Best Buy did not let that little fact slip, stating that they are “the only retailer to carry all of the top e-reader brands in-store so consumers can conveniently compare and decide which is right for them.”

As for the display setup, according to the details found in the press release announcement, Best Buy will be setting up new end-cap displays that will be for ereader devices in general. In other words, it sounds like they are really going to make it easy for customers to compare. Maybe not the best news as far as Amazon is concerned, but certainly better for those interested in making a purchase.
