PS Jailbreak Gets Ported To Palm Pre, Nokia N900 Following Australian Ban

After Being Banned In Australia, PS Jailbreak Jumps To Palm Pre and Nokia N900 For Dongle-Less Jailbreaking

Just about every device that hits the makret comes with some sort of security precautions set forth by its respective hardware manufacturer. While this may anger some, it’s not without reason as hardware manufacturers do such things in attempts to curb piracy or otherwise illegal use of said devices.

Luckily, for those of you opposed to such security measures, the hacking community is quick with their work releasing a ‘jailbreak’ for pretty much all of these devices. iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users know all too well of these methods as they are the devices that really helped coin the term ‘jailbreak’. Android users, on the other hand, may be familiar with a similar method known as ‘rooting’ which gives access to superuser features such as custom ROMs and tethering.

While the above mentioned devices/platforms were quick to be jailbroken (and remain that way with every reoccurring firmware update) Sony’s Playstation 3 home video game console was pretty the exact opposite. In fact, just about as long as the console has been on the market it has gone uncracked thanks to Sony’s top notch team of security engineers. However, if you’ve been paying attention to the matter, you’ll already know that a device dubbed PS Jailbreak has been making the rounds undoing all of these security measures found within the PS3.Get Shortlink

Originally being released as a USB dongle, PS Jailbreak allowed consumers to open up their console software wise and play back up (read: pirated) games and more. Unfortunately, the Australian government was none too keen of such a device and proceed to promptly ban it.

Follow this ban, the community took a more innovative approach to the matter by porting the PS Jailbreak software to both the Palm Pre and Nokia N900. Thanks to the port, all a consumer needs to do (in a nutshell) is transfer the software to one of the above mentioned smartphones, tether it up with their PS3 and run said software.

Below are video demonstrations of both handset jailbreaks in action.
