Carl Zeiss Cinemizer Glasses Get Aesthetic Upgrade
We haven’t heard anything about the Carl-Zeiss Cinemizer glasses since back in March of 2009, so you likely won’t be surprised to hear they’ve undergone a serious update. But some are questioning whether the update will be serious enough.
While the Carl-Zeiss Cinemizers will now be sporting a matched pair of OLED screens in their lenses instead of the original LCDs, as well as expanded compatibility with non-Apple hardware (these were originally designed for use with the iPod, though I’ll venture a guess they work with the iPhone and iPad too) there’s a bit of a problem as the resolution will still be 640 x 480, which you’ll likely recognize as VGA dimensions.
So basically, these are two year old video goggles that got a little extra punch of quality hardware, but without elevating the actual quality of the device itself. This is definitely a disconcerting development, especially considering these are set to cost 400 euro ($515 US), which is up 30 euro from their original price tag.
