iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G Improves Overall Performance; Video Proof Available

Unofficial Testing Shows iOS 4.1 Works Better than iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3G]

Before this week’s Apple media event, Steve Jobs personally answered to customers regarding the poor iOS 4 performance on iPhone 3G smartphones promising that Apple will address it in a future update.

Then, during the official keynote, he did refer to the various bugs that iOS 4.1 will fix: the proximity sensor issues, the Bluetooth bugs and, most importantly, the slugishness of the iPhone 3G. Apparently that’s what the iPhone 3G’s poor iOS 4.0 performance is internally referred to, an internal bug.

The video below shows a comparison between two iPhone 3Gs one running iOS 4.0 and one running iOS 4.1 as you can clearly see, the last firmware update certainly improves the overall performance of the iPhone 3G. iOS 4.1 is not available to download from iTunes yet, but developers already have access to it so they must

The video below shows you how the iPhone 3G performs when dealing with SMS messages, Maps, photos and Safari browsing and clearly iOS 4.1 is the better choice here. The even better choice would be running an earlier iOS version on the iPhone 3G, like iOS 3.1.3 or iOS 3.1.2, but that’s only an alternative available for those of you that have jailbroken their iPhone 3Gs and saved the SHSH blobs in order to be able to downgrade from iOS 4.x to an earlier version.

And Apple will never let you officially downgrade the iPhone 3G, even if iOS 4.x and all the future versions of the OS will not really be compatible with early iPhone models. Why? Because you could easily upgrade to an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 instead, and thus have a better iPhone experience, especially considering that the iPhone 3G doesn’t really have what it takes to support some iOS 4 features.

iOS 4.1 will be available to the public on September 8, at which point plenty of iPhone 3G owners will upgrade their firmware. You will let us know what iOS 4.1 will feel like on the iPhone 3G, won’t you?

i’d just updated my 3g with ios 4.1 this morning (sep. 9), but the problem is still there. it doesn’t solve the slowness. simply pushing the “settings” button, will take 3 seconds before it pops out. this just proved that apple is not concerned at all with the millions of 3g users. i’m very much frustrated….

I don’t get it. The title of the video says iPhone 3G but the intro slide says 3Gs. The 3Gs did not have nearly the problems of the 3G and if this is a video of a 3Gs this is not helpful in the least.
