iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Efforts Underway, New Jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPad & iPod touch Coming Soon?

While iOS 4.0.2 wasn’t worth jailbreaking, as it was just a temporary firmware update meant to fix that PDF exploit, which coincidentally enabled iOS 4 jailbreaking, iOS 4.1 is a different story. The new iOS version that brings a bunch of fixes and new features will be available on September 8 and it will be available for iPhone and iPod touch units out there. And this iOS version will be worth jailbreaking.

Jailbreaking efforts seem to be underway and, we’re looking forward to see how fast the iPhone Dev Team will be able to jailbreak this iOS version. The hackers will have to find a new way to attack iOS 4.1 in order to free it, but since phones aren’t perfect, mobile OSes aren’t perfect either, which means there surely must be a way to jailbreak iOS 4.1 and, subsequently, iOS 4.2, which will be available in November.

Currently it’s still unknown what kind of jailbreak tool will be used for iOS 4.1. Userland jailbreak, like Spirit and JailbreakMe, will be the most convenient for the public, but finding another hole might prove to be pretty difficult. If that doesn’t work then the iPhone Dev Team will have to work on a jailbreak method based on bootrom exploit, which will take longer to complete.

With that in mind nobody can offer an accurate timeframe for the arrival of the next iOS jailbreaking solution, so it’s advisable to stay away from updating to iOS 4.1 if you want to hang on to a jailbroken, and most importantly, an unlocked iPhone.

iOS 3.2.2 iPads are still going to remain jailed and a jailbreaking solution will probably not arrive until iOS 4.2 gets official this winter. So if you plan to buy an iPad right now and then jailbreak it using current available tools, then better consider purchasing an older iOS 3.2.1 model.
