Blizzard Wants James Cameron To Make StarCraft Movie [Blizzard Tells MTV That If Avatar Director Wanted To Make StarCraft Movie, They'd Accept]
We know from Valve that video game developers with awesome games are constantly bombarded with offers to do movie adoptions. Those with taste (like Valve) reject offers from lesser movie studios. Blizzard apparently really likes James Cameron though. Rob Pardo, VP at Blizzard, told MTV’s Multiplayer Blog that if the Avatar director was interested in a StarCraft movie, they’d hire him.

I mean – Avatar is basically the plot to a video game, right? Maybe with more shooting and less talking, but the whole thing seemed like a huge video game plot to us. On the other side, StarCraft actually has a fairly deep story involving the different factions of humans, the Protoss’ struggle against the Zerg, etc. I don’t know how well a StarCraft movie would do.
Here’s Pardo’s exact quote:
I think if Jim Cameron came to us tomorrow and said, ‘You want to make a ‘StarCraft’ movie?’ we’d probably sign that.
Pardo said that they (like Valve and the Half-Life movie) have had tons of offers from movie and TV people to turn StarCraft into a movie, but they’re waiting for the right opportunity. Unfortunately, I think Cameron is likely busy with Avatar 2.
You may have heard about the Warcraft movie, based on the Warcraft series of games from Blizzard. It’s been often reported as a “World of Warcraft” movie, but that would be completely uninteresting to see people sitting Mom’s basement playing games all night. It’s actually based on the deep lore of the movie. Pardo said that Blizzard was “super excited” by it, but that “it’s still in that story-development phase.”
Are you looking forward to the WarCraft movie? Would you watch a StarCraft movie made by James Cameron?
