ViewSonic Speaks Of Their 10-Inch ViewPad 100 Tablet at IFA [ViewSonic Shows Off 10-inch Windows 7/Android Powered ViewPad 100 Tablet During IFA 2010]
It’s no secret that the tablet industry is about to get a major boost thanks to all of the high powered offerings that have been announced as of late. Not only do most of them run Android (Google’s much loved mobile OS), but they also feature specs that many Apple fanboys would love to have in their iPads such as a front facing camera for video conferencing and USB ports among other things.

Currently, the iPad is the leader of the pack when it comes to the slate tablet form factor but like I just said, this will all change soon enough. Samsung, for example, is one company that really looks to give the iPad a run for its money with the Android 2.2 powered Galaxy Tab. Unfortunately, this device is expected to feature an extraordinary price tag when purchased without carrier subsidization – something that is surely to be a turnoff for many.
Luckily, many other companies are planning to release tablets with much more palatable price tags – some even much lower than the iPad’s $499 starting point.
If you follow televisions whatsoever, you’ve probably heard of ViewSonic – a company that specializes in high end display products at an affordable price. Well, we told you not too long ago that this company would be coming out with a tablet dubbed the ViewPad but we didn’t exactly have an officially completed spec list at the time.
Luckily, during this year’s IFA, ViewSonic has set up a booth to display their 10-inch ViewPad 100 tablet. This device will apparently be dual booting Windows 7 and Android 1.6 (no Froyo, bummer) which is a good thing for those indecisive about operating systems. Additionally, the ViewPad will pack an Intel Atom processor clocked at 1.66GHz, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2 USB ports and a VGA output port.
That beautifully large 10-inch screen will support multitouch and a native resolution of 1024 x 600. Storage wise we’re looking at a built-in 16GB SSD drive and an SDHC slot for additional storage.
Unfortunately, the product won’t be the cheapest on the market starting at £549 (about $848) when it hits the UK in October but with such highly sought after specs it may be a justifiable price point for some. No word on a North American launch but we’ll keep you posted, always.
Just to make note, this is evidently a different tablet than ViewSonic’s previously announced 7-inch ViewPad 7 so perhaps we will be seeing a diverse tablet lineup out of the company.
