Roku XD and Netgear Roku XD Player Visit the FCC

The Roku XD and Netgear Roku CD Player Pays a Visit to the FCC

With Apple making waves with the $99 Apple TV, you know that competitors will soon come out with their own. And the first one up reported to have submitted their devices for FCC checking are the Roku XD and Netgear Roku XD players.

Details on whether these two devices are standalones or were designed to work together have not been mentioned.

However a wild guess may point us to the direction that they are independent devices pegged to deliver media entertainment.

As far as the Netgear Roku XD player is concerned, it seems to have been designed to support local playback and services.

This includes the likes of PlayOn, YouTube, and CinemaNow.

There is no official word on how much either device would cost. If they do end up being a bit higher than the Apple TV, the official specs may entice potential customers to check them out.

Regardless, the official documents for the Roku XD and Netgear Roku XD player are expected to be out by October 23.
