New iOS 4.1 Officially Available on September 8; Unofficially Available for iPod touch 4G Now
Are you waiting for iOS 4.1 to be rolled out? Well there’s at least one reason for iPhone 4 owners to be interested in it. As you may already know, Steve Jobs did say that iPhone 4.1 fixes the proximity sensor issue among other things, but you’ll still have to wait a few more days for the new iOS version to come out.

Another reason to be excited about iOS 4.1 is that it will equip the iPod touch 4G and bring FaceTime video calls via emails to the new iPod touch, if you’re into that. And then there’s Game Center and that new HDR magical photo to check out. Finally there’s that jailbreaking issue to keep in mind. While iOS 4.0.2 won’t get jailbroken, iOS 4.1 might have a different destiny. But again, we’ll have to wait for the official iOS 4.1 version to come out before all that can happen.
And, according to Apple’s UK website, iOS 4.1 is going to be available to anyone willing to update their device on September 8. The U.S. mothership website has the “Coming Soon” Apple-like message printed all over iOS 4.1 but the UK version is good enough for us.
However there’s one disturbing issue about iOS 4.1. It looks like the iOS 4.1 for iPod touch 4G is out already, but how can that be since the iPod touch 4G isn’t out yet? The new iPods, including the new touch, aren’t selling in stores yet so who can benefit from this iOS 4.1 version that’s apparently in the wild? Well, iPod touch 4G owners, if anyone did get the device so far. And no, that’s not the iOS 4.1 Golden Master that developers already play with.
So, in just four days from now, or at some point this next Tuesday, iOS 4.1 for the iPhones and iPod touches out there will be available, and that’s probably the date when the new iPod touch, nano and shuffle are also going to start selling. But in case you do have a touch running iOS 4.1, let us know how it all works out for you!
