Verizon Wireless R2-D2 Droid 2 Website Unlocking Begins, New R2-D2 Edition Images Revealed [Verizon Reveals Additional R2-D2 Droid 2 Edition Images, Including Themed Dock]
When the Motorola Droid 2 was originally announced we also learned about the special R2-D2 edition model that was going to come available. Unfortunately though, we were not as fortunate in terms of getting all of the details or a good look at first. Though, shortly after we did learn that Verizon would launch the R2-D2 edition Droid 2 on September 30th — and as of today we now have a nice series of images of both the phone itself as well as the specially branded dock.

You see, Verizon has had the Droid R2D2 website available, however most of it has been and remains locked. It seems that Verizon is running a contest in conjunction with the phone where anyone who is able to unlock a portion of the website will win the phone. The contest is being run along with the @droidlanding Twitter account and the website consists of an exclusive video, wallpapers, enhancescan app, home screens, R2-D2 soundboard, boot-up sequence, apps + widgets and device gallery. And as of now of those eight sections, only two (apps + widgets and device gallery) have been unlocked.

But with that, we are thankful that the gallery has been unlocked because not only has it given us a decent series of images of the phone itself, but also the dock. As for images, while we can always want more, the collection here (in the gallery below) covers everything from the front to back to side and some with the keyboard extended.
Otherwise, aside from the special branding on the phone, and what will include some custom widgets, sounds and wallpapers — the R2-D2 edition Droid 2 will still come sporting the same features found on the regular Droid 2. Those include Android 2.2 Froyo, 8GB internal storage, 8GB microSD card, Mobile Hotspot, an 5 megapixel camera and 3.7 inch display.
