Toshiba Enters 3D Blu-ray Fray [Toshiba's BDX-3100 Offers 3D, BDX-1100 Stays 2D]
Toshiba’s looking to move on up in the Blu-ray circles by bringing out a pair of new devices, the BDX-1100 and the BDX-3100. The 3100, however, offers a new twist: namely, 3D capability.
I knew that’d make some of you sit up and take notice. That’s right–Toshiba’s bringing out a 3D capable Blu-ray player along with a 2D “lesser” model. Interestingly, this actually completes a three-part puzzle that Toshiba’s been working by first bringing out a 3D television and following it up with a 3D laptop.
The 3D capable BDX-3100 is going to put up Dolby True HD support, support for HD-JPEG and MP3, as well as a USB port. The BDX-1100, meanwhile, will not offer the 3D or the USB, but will offer everything else, making it plenty worthwhile if you’re not looking to have things jump off the screen at you just yet.
No word yet on pricing, sadly, though the 3100 will clearly be the pricier of the duo, and they’re looking to have these available starting this October.
