Energizer Unveils Inductive Charger With Qi Technology
Energizer has recently unveiled a new inductive charger for smartphones. Which for those not as familiar with inductive charging — it means that once your phone is equipped you simply need to place it down on the mat to begin charging. In other words one less wire to worry about, think Palm Pre and the Touchstone dock, just drop down and it begins charging.

Unfortunately, the Energizer announcement comes with some good and bad news. As for the bad, that is simple, at this point the device coverage is fairly limited. That said, it is expected to not only grow and incorporate more cell phones, but also other gadgets in the future. Bottom line, if you phone is not yet compatible, keep this in mind and check again in the future.
With that out of the way, lets get into the good details. The Energizer Inductive Charger is going to be available by way of Target in October and then with Amazon a month later in November. In terms of pricing, the charging mat will be priced at $89 and the smartphone adapters will be $34.99.
As for device compatibility, so far that is limited to the iPhone 3G and 3GS as well as the BlackBerry Curve 8900. Given the lack of removable battery in the iPhone, this support will come in the form of a case that slips over the phone. The solution for the Curve 8900 is a little nicer and comes in the form of a replacement battery door cover.
Otherwise, the charging mat itself measures in at 7.27 (W) x 7.91 (L) x 0.39 – 0.93 (T) and can not only charge two inductive-equipped devices but it also has a USB port that will allow you to charge a third device.
In terms of other devices, according to the information we received from Energizer, they are planning to offer support for additional phones as well as cameras, MP3 players and “a slew of other devices.”
