Apple iTunes 10 Comes With Cosmetic Changes & Lack Of Colorful Icons

Here Is How You Can Add The Missing Color Back Into iTunes 10 & Move The Minimize/Zoom Buttons Back To The Top

Apple announced iTunes 10 earlier in the week, and had it available for download later that evening. With the new software there were some new features and a new app icon as well as some minor UI changes on the inside. The new features included iTunes Ping, TV show rentals and AirPlay as well as improvements on syncing. And then there were those little issues such as the Close/Minimize/Zoom buttons being moved as well as the icons inside iTunes being changed from color to gray. Well, personally I liked the buttons where they were and I miss the color. That said, here is how you can change those back with relative ease.

To begin with, these fixes are for those running iTunes 10 on a Mac. Sorry Window users.

First up, the moving of the Close/Minimize/Zoom buttons. This one is fairly simple and requires nothing more than a little time spent in the Terminal app. Bottom line for this one, close iTunes, launch the Terminal app and type;

defaults write com.apple.iTunes full-window -boolean YES

Simple and easy, and just in case you change your mind and want to go back, just do the same thing again except substitute the last YES with a NO.

Next up we have the now gray icons, and again, this one is fairly simple to change. First download this iTunes color resources file. After that is downloaded, make sure you close iTunes and then right click on the app icon and choose “Show Package Contents” and then that will bring up a folder called “Contents.” Once you have that, open the folder and navigate to the “Resources” folder. Then once there you can replace the “iTunes.rscr” file with the one you downloaded.

And similar to the button fix, this one is also easy enough to put back should you change your mind. Of course, this reversal takes a little pre-work. In other words, before you replace that “iTunes.rscr” file you should back up the one you had, that way if you want to switch back, just drag the original file back into the Contents -> Resources folder.
