Vlingo & Foursquare Announce Partnership That Will Benefit Android Users

Vlingo For Android App Now Supports Checking In To Foursquare With Voice Commands

A few weeks back we mentioned Vlingo for Android, which at the time was lowered in price from $9.99 down to free as a response to the Google Voice Actions for Android app. Of course, it seems as if Vlingo had the advantage at the time given their app works on more than Android 2.2 Froyo, however they have returned with yet another update and one that will make Foursquare users happy.

“Location and social networking have become an integral part of consumers’ everyday lives — so having a strategic alliance with foursquare to provide users with a simple, easy way to connect with their friends is a natural fit for Vlingo,” said Hadley Harris, VP of Marketing at Vlingo.

The new Foursquare integration comes with similar functionality as the other features. By that I mean, you speak a simple and short command and your phone reacts accordingly.

As for using the new commands; you can say things line “check in [place]” or “check into [location]” but checking in is not where the functionality stops. In addition you also have commands such as “Where are my friends?” and Who’s nearby?” as well as “Shout [state where you are going]” and even “Foursquare Shout [where you are and what you are doing].”

All said and done, Vlingo has made it that much easier for you to broadcast your location using Foursquare and an Android smartphone.

Plus, the original features and functionality remain in place which allows you to do things like send text messages, send email messages, search the web, open other applications and also update your Facebook and Twitter status — all with voice commands. You can even turn on SafeReader and have the Vlingo app read your incoming text and email messages.

Lastly, the Vlingo for Android app is available in the Android Market and can be found by searching for vlingo. In terms of compatibility, that is Android 2.1 and 2.2.
