Samsung To Focus On Android [World's Largest Consumer Electronics Firm Affirms New Commitment To Android, Citing "Consumer Demand"]
Samsung is the #2 mobile phone maker in the world, and as such, they’ve made smartphones in the past running Windows Mobile, Symbain and their own half-cooked TouchWiz software. They’ve committed to Windows Phone 7 as well as their own new creation, Bada. Despite all that, the head of Samsung Mobile’s marketing said that they were prioritizing their Android phones. Is this a victory for Android?

The big news at the IFA trade show in Berlin was Samsung unveiled the long anticipated Samsung Galaxy Tab, an Android-powered 7-inch tablet that will go for the kneecaps of the iPad. On the heels of that announcement, YH Lee, head of marketing for Samsung Mobile, spoke to Reuters.
We are prioritizing our Android platform. Android is very open and flexible, and there is a consumer demand for it.
Despite having a focus on Android, that hasn’t stopped Samsung from working on bada and Windows Phone 7. They’ve already committed to WP7, and a Samsung device is the official “developer phone” that Microsoft is sending out to developers and journalists for time with WP7.
And while many in the tech blog community wondered why Samsung was even bothering developing their own Bada OS, that hasn’t stopped Samsung. Ms. Lee told Reuters that Samsung has “a lineup” of Bada phones that will be announced in the coming months.
What about Symbian? Nokia has given the ancient mobile operating system a facelift with Symbian^3, and Samsung has produced Symbian phones before. But, don’t expect them to make any soon. Samsung has yet to release any Symbian phones in 2010 and Lee told Reuters: “We are not seeing visible demand for Symbian.”
Can Samsung compete with HTC and Motorola for Android supremacy?
