Kobo Ereader App Lands On The Samsung Galaxy Tab Android Tablet [Kobo Ereader For Android To Power The "Readers Hub" On The Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet]

In the past I would have described Kobo as the underdog in the ereader market, however given some of their recent announcements including decent pricing on the hardware reader as well as numerous smartphone apps that seems to have changed.

As of now, Kobo may not quite have the same name recognition as say Amazon or Barnes & Noble, however they do have the Borders partnership going. That said, they do seem to be holding their own in the ereader market and this latest announcement is only going to help that.

This one is short and simple — the Kobo app for Android will be the default ereader app on the much hyped Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet, which should mean that plenty more people will know about Kobo in the future.

And for those who missed the full details on the Galaxy Tab, the tablet will have (in addition to many other features) a “Readers Hub” and as you guessed it — Kobo is powering that hub. In addition to reading ebooks with the app itself, which is said to have been designed specially for the Galaxy Tab, those users will also have access to the Kobo book store which is currently offering “over 2.2 million popular titles.”

As for that redesign, according to the details coming from Kobo the app will feature;

  • Easy navigation: Tap or swipe to turn pages, scroll through your book, or use the Table of Contents to jump between sections.
  • Customizable: Personalize your reading experience by choosing the perfect text size and style for your eyes, or switch between day and night reading mode.
  • Viewing options: Simply turn your Samsung GALAXY Tab to switch from landscape to portrait view.
  • Find books easily: Browse our extensive selection of categories and recommended reading lists.
  • Read Anywhere: Kobo also offers free reading apps for computers, smartphones, eReaders and other devices, so you can always access your library from any device. Watch for the Kobo app preloaded on Samsung Smartphones too!
  • International titles: Kobo is rapidly acquiring titles in the European and Asia-Pacific areas, to deliver choice to readers around the world.
  • Own your books: Kobo supports EPUB, PDF, and Adobe DRM, so you can purchase and download books from other sources and add them to your Kobo library.

It is news like this that makes me wish I was not so stuck in the Amazon world. That said, maybe I should start purchasing some more books from the Kobo Store and reading them on the Kobo app for the iPad.
