Boxee Box Gets Priced, Trumps Apple's Offering

The Boxee Box Is Set To Hit Stores, Pricier but Higher Resolution Than Apple

I believe the proper thing to chant here is “Served!”, but I could be wrong–seems the folks out at Boxee have taken the opportunity to steal a bit of Apple thunder and offer up the Boxee Box’s pricing data and shipping.

First off, the big distinction here will be price. The Boxee Box will be about double what Apple’s charging–$199 over $99–but the Boxee Box will offer a key distinction that they, along with probably a whole lot of others, will call worth the difference.

While Apple TV will play its images in not-half-bad 720p, the Boxee Box will go all the way to 1080p, basically meaning that, as of right now, there’s pretty much nothing this thing can’t play as it was meant to be played. Is this move going to be enough to justify a doubled price tag and break some people away from Apple?

That remains to be seen, of course, but I’d personally make the call that there will be plenty of Boxee Boxes sold this November when they hit, though there will be plenty of Apple TVs sold too.
