Want To Find Cellphones? Try The Wolfhound
The guys behind Wolfhound tested it at a Bangkok prison. Half an hour later it found ten contraband cell phones.
If you’re the kind of person that needs to keep cell phones away from people–in a prison, for example, where contraband cell phones are actually a growing problem, and in movie theaters, where cell phones have always been a problem–then you’ll want to know who’s got a cell phone so that you can either temporarily confiscate it or go tell them to shut it off, depending on how much power you’ve got over their lives.
The Wolfhound, you see, can track the RF emissions from a cell phone that’s turned on, even when it’s just been left in standby mode. Since cell phone jamming is technically illegal, as it prevents the legitimate use of cell phones, the Wolfhound represents the next best thing–it finds them, so you can confront their holders accordingly. The Wolfhound can even track phones through heavy concrete.
So does this mean an end to cell phones in theaters? Doubt it, myself–any phone that can be turned off can be turned back on with surprising rapidity–but any move in that direction is a good one to me.
