Droid Does.... Prepaid?
Prepaid plans are a great way to save money. But one draw back is that prepaid carriers often don’t have the latest and greatest selection of phones for their plans. That may change very soon. Alleged internal documents from Verizon Wireless show America’s biggest carrier may be planning a frenzy of prepaid plans with a very good selection of prepaid phones – including every Android phone they currently offer.

Yep, while prepaid customers in the US have to settle for (the still excellent) HTC Desire, Verizon may coup them all and offer all of their Droid offerings. Here’s what allegedly they’ll be offering on new prepaid plans.
- Motorola Droid
- Motorola Droid 2
- Motorola Droid X
- Motorola Devour
- Samsung Fascinate
- Droid Incredible
- LG Ally
The fun doesn’t stop there. Big Red allegedly may be offering these other smartphones for prepaid plans.
- Palm Pre Plus
- Palm Pixi Plus
- BlackBerry Curve 8330
- BlackBerry Curve 2 9530
- BlackBerry Storm 9530
- BlackBerry Storm 9550
- BlackBerry Tour 9630
- BlackBerry Bold 9650
In addition to the smartphones, a number of featurephones and multimedia phones were listed as well. The alleged prepaid plans that these documents say Verizon will be offering seem to be about right to us. They’re not the cheapest (when compared to Boost Mobile, metroPCS – but hey, it’s Verizon) and that adds a bit of creditability.
Some have suggested that this plan is too aggressive for a major carrier like Verizon. Carriers make substantially less revenue per customer on a prepaid plan – but many pundits see prepaid as the future of the mobile phone space, carriers be damned. If true, could Verizon be attempting to future-proof their business?
