Samsung Galaxy S Froyo Update Gets Leaked; Real Thing Coming Soon? [Samsung Galaxy Android 2.2 Froyo Upgrade Just Around the Corner; Leaked Froyo ROM Already in the Wild]

The Samsung Galaxy S is, at least according to yours truly, one of the most successful Android devices launched so far. Sure the Motorola Droid was/is a spectacular device, but Samsung managed to build buzz around the Galaxy S in an Apple-like sort of way. Not to mention that it launched it almost simultaneously in various markets which is something neither Motorola nor HTC can say about their Motorola Droid X or HTC EVO 4G smartphones.

The Galaxy S has been sold in 1 million units in the USA and South Korea too, and there must be plenty of other markets in which this particular Android smartphone is playing an important role. But that also means that over 2 million customers are waiting for the Froyo update, and the GPS fix, while we’re at it, from Samsung and carrier partners. September is said to be the month when various Galaxy S flavors will get the Froyo update, but, until then, some lucky XDA developers forum members have managed to find the Android 2.2 ROM for the device and install it on their Galaxy S handsets.

As you can see from the screenshot above, Android 2.2 Froyo has been installed on at least one Galaxy S smartphone, and, in the following days, we expect various tutorials to be available to the crowds and educate them on how to get their Captivate, Vibrant, Epic 4G, or just plain Galaxy S to the next Android level, Froyo.

The first batch of unofficial Froyo updates will hit European customers as it looks like the leaked ROM only matches those models but it won’t be long until U.S. customers will also be able to rock an unreleased Froyo version on their Galaxy S model. And since a leaked Froyo for the Galaxy S is available, the real thing shld be available soon too.

The current testimonials say that GPS has been improved, among all the other Android 2.2 features, so that’s one more reason for bold Galaxy S owners to get this unreleased Froyo version. And that’s where I’ll have to warn you, like I always do, that running unofficial firmware versions on your smartphones or other devices, may cause various issues, so you’d have to think twice before pursuing such endeavors.
