Motorola Droid X FlyX Custom ROM Available to Install on Any Droid X
Remember how we always tell you that jailbreaking, rooting, unlocking or custom flashing any device is your sole responsibility and, even if these procedures are legal they’re not exactly flaw free? I’m just checking since we’re about to show you how to install your first custom ROM on the Motorola Droid X, a daring endeavor that was thought impossible at certain times.

The Motorola Droid X is currently Verizon’s flagship Android smartphone, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be improved, at least according to some people. In fact we already seen that the phone can be upgraded to Android 2.2 Froyo and we’ve also seen that Clockwork recovery procedure out in the open.
The next ROM you can try is coming from Birdman and it’s entitled FlyX. The ROM is in “RC1 status” for now so you might want to wait before actually installing it. Also, you’ll want an Android 2.2 rooted Droid X so better check the links above for more instructions.
In case you do have a rooted Droid X that runs Android 2.2, then here are the instructions you need to install FlyX on your Droid X:
*Note 1* – YOU HAVE TO BE RUNNING THE LEAKED 2.2. (Instructions here.)
*Note 2* – YOU HAVE TO BE ROOTED. (Instructions here. [Ed: Same as on Motorola Droid 2])
*Note 3* – YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE DROID X BOOSTRAP INSTALLED. (Info here.)
1. Once you have all of the above taken care of you are ready to start.
2. Download and install ROM Manager from the Market.
3. If you haven’t already, tap the top button to “Flash Clockwork Recovery.”
4. Once that finishes, choose “Download ROM.”
5. Choose Birdman’s FlyX.
6. Choose the only option which is FlyX 0.1 RC1.
7. The ROM will now download.
8. When it finishes you will be prompted to backup and wipe data/cache. Check BOTH boxes.*Note 4* – Seriously, check BOTH boxes. You need a backup in case something goes wrong and Birdman is highly recommending that you wipe data and cache.
9. You phone will now reboot, create a backup and flash the FlyX ROM.
10. Once it finishes, it will reboot and you will now be running Birdman’s FlyX.*Note 5* – The first boot will take some time. Be patient.
*Note 6* – After your phone boots for the first time, if you are really patient, it will likely re-download all of your previously installed apps. Sign into your Gmail account and watch the sync icon appear and work for a long time depending on the number of apps you had.
11. Enjoy life without bloatware!
Remember to make sure you follow the steps above as described, and make sure you know what you’re doing if you’re choosing this path. Also remember we’re just the messengers here, so better ask Birdman directly at the source if you encounter any disturbances in the force.
