iPhone 4 Proximity Sensor Fix Missing From iOS 4.1? [iOS 4.1 Not Expected to Fix Proximity Sensor for iPhone 4 Anymore]
Apple’s upcoming media event is just two days away and although we’re going to cover it extensively for you, there are still plenty of rumors that keep hitting the web and are worth checking out. While not official, a recent report suggests the fact that Apple will not address one important iPhone 4 issue (no, not the Death Grip) in its upcoming iOS 4.1 firmware.

I am talking about the proximity sensor issues that have been reported since the launch of the phone. It’s a major issue since it definitely cripples your whole iPhone 4 experience, or at least the calling experience. The faulty proximity sensor will let you end a phone call with your check, and that’s definitely an annoying feature. Holding the device a different way is not being offered as an alternative, although it might just work, and iPhone 4 owners are definitely waiting for a software patch to solve this problem.
iOS 4.1 will surely be unveiled in a couple of days as the new OS will definitely power the new iPod touch and enable FaceTime calling via email. But it looks like iOS 4.1 will not fix the proximity sensor issue. What’s the matter Apple? With two months after the official launch of the new iPhone you still can’t fix an important problem?
According to an Apple spokesperson from Australia, the proximity sensor issue will still have to wait and that’s pretty official in my book. I wonder though if Apple meant to have this information out in the wild as it will cause some stir with the millions of iPhone 4 owners. I am not saying that all of them are experiencing the issue! In fact, let us know in comments if the proximity sensor bug is ruining your calls day in and day out, or not really. I am just saying that Apple promised a fix in a major iOS update, and iOS 4.1 is about as major as it gets.
We’ll have to wait two more days to see what excuses will Steve Jobs come up next, and we’re definitely going to keep you posted. Maybe that Australian Apple spokesperson was wrong after all.
