HP's Phil McKinney Teases 3 Prototype Devices Via Twitter

Picture Displays HP's Phil McKinney Playing With 3 Unknown Prototypes, Raises Questions As To What They Are

HP is a large company and has been for quite some time now. In fact, chances are you probably have or have had a printer made by HP. However, printers, scanners and fax machines aren’t the only thing HP makes as they have been producing laptop and destkop computers for decently long. Although, while they remained a large company they received a great deal of buzz when they recently purchased Palm.

More importantly, they purchased Palm’s webOS mobile operating system. Just like Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, Palm hoped to secure a hefty chunk of the handset market with webOS when they first released it powering the Palm Pre back in June of 09.

Unfortunately, webOS didn’t take off as Palm had planned but they still went on to release both the Palm Pre and Pixi Plus, both running the platform. Featuring virtually identical form factors to their predecessors, the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus brought faster processors to the mix but it still wasn’t enough to make webOS as popular as its competitors.

Luckily, with HP’s purchase of webOS comes a whole slew of possibilities. If you remember, the fabled HP Slate was rumored to be getting a webOS make over exciting many looking for an iPad alternative. Unfortunately, that product has since been axed due to complications but that doesn’t mean HP or webOS are out of the tablet game entirely.

In fact, just today via Twitter, HP’s CTO Phil McKinney released some pictures of him with 3 prototype devices. Of course, due to confidentiality reasons he was forced to censor said prototypes but the sizes of the censor bars give us some clues.

First of all, the first censor bar you may notice is on his wrist. What exactly this is, we have no clue, but can only be led to believe that it is some sort of watch/handset implementation. Second, the smart phone sized prototype which is most likely a new webOS enabled handset and finally a large prototype which may very be a webOS powered tablet, or so we hope.

Until HP comes forth to speak further about these devices we’re going to be stuck speculating so you might as well leave what you think these devices are in the comments below and furthermore, would you buy any of these devices if they were running webOS?

The plus versions did not bring faster processors. They simply had more memory space and more RAM.

WebOS is an extremely impressive Mobile OS it’s simple, intuitive and well designed. When I compare my Palm PrePlus to an Android Phone it’s not even close. The Android OS just feels thrown together; HP must have noticed the same things or why would they have purchased Palm?
