iPhone 4 & iPad Jailbreak & Free Cases Coming from China Unicom, Talk About Freedom [China Unicom Rumored to Jailbreak iPhone 4 & Offer Free Cases to Customers; a Slice of Heaven Not Included]
Here’s a very interesting piece of news coming all the way from China: it looks like China Unicom is about to offer iPhone 4 and iPad jailbreak to customers and, like that’s not enough, the carrier is also going to hand out free cases to handle that Death Grip non-issue.

Talk about freedom in China! As anyone knows by now, China is not the most democracy-friendly universe and we find it hard to believe that a carrier can be so bold to offer iPhone 4 jailbreaking right out of the box. We will appreciate the irony here; Chinese iPhone and iPad customers hate the fact that Apple jails these devices, but have no problems having some of their rights jailed? Moving on, just imagine AT&T doing that for you, or any other European carrier selling Apple’s latest device! I bet Apple would be pretty pissed about it.
It looks like the Chinese carrier is willing to allow jailbreaking and, since it’s so easy to perform, they’ll do it for you. But while iOS 4.0.1 and iOS 3.2.1 devices are waiting to be jailbroken, what about iPhone 4 and iPad units that come with iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 3.2.2, respectively, on board? Can we assume that China Unicom has jailbroken the new OS versions?
In case they did, that’s both good news and bad news for us. Good, because that means China Unicom has found a new flaw to exploit and that means non-Chinese iOS 4.0.2 iPhone 4 units will be jailbroken in the future. Bad, because that means Apple will also be aware of the new security hole exploited by an iOS 4.0.2 jailbreak and will patch it up in the following update. And that might mean Apple could be a step ahead, for once, of the iPhone Dev Team. The famous hackers have announced just a few days ago that they’re not going to offer an iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 3.2.2 jailbreak since these are just temporary firmware solutions.
The same thing goes for the iPad since China Unicom will jailbreak it for you too. And the same logic goes for iOS 3.2.2 for iPad, which is also non-jailbreakable right now.
So if you’re reading this in China, then let us know how China Unicom is treating you. Are these jailbreaks really being offered to iPhone 4 and iPad customers? As for the free iPhone 4 cases, well you were getting them from Apple anyway.
