Flipping and Rotating Keyboard Patent for Smartphones Filed by RIM

RIM Files a New Flipping and Rotating Keyboard Patent

RIM has something brewing on its end, something about a flipping and rotating keyboard. With a lot of enhanced keyboards like foldable and angled keyboards, this one has to be interesting.

It seems RIM may soon be coming out with a keyboard for their line of smartphones, a concept which will allow a smartphone’s keyboard to shift from a portrait to landscape orientation fixture.

Based on the diagram that was submitted, a numeric pad could be spun around to become a QWERTY input surface and the whole rig repositioned to allow a more comfortable typing interface for users.

Again, this is only a concept and while there is no word yet if such a concept may exist for smartphone technology, you just have to keep your eyes open for it.

While consumers and phone manufacturers may still be in the mix of determining which software or key feature that could entice consumers to go for such a concept, at least if it does come out, RIM is ready for it!
