7-inch iPad 2 Actually Rumored to be Targeted by Samsung Galaxy Tab Now

Samsung’s First Android Tablet Is Said to Compete Against a 7-inch iPad Model

A new report is meant to incite us a couple of days before two major events, the announcement of the new iPod lines and supposedly other Apple products and the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Samsung’s first Android tablet.

The Apple event is scheduled for September 1 and Apple is expected to unveil the new iPod touch 4G, the iPod nano 6G, Apple TV plans and iOS 4.1 although other rumors suggested that a new, 7-inch iPad, possibly the iPad 2, and a new 11.6-inch MacBook Air could also be introduced this September.

The Samsung event is scheduled for September 2, just a day after Apple’s music event, and just one day before the official start of IFA which is being held in Berlin, Germany from September 3-8.

Sources from “upstream component makers” say Samsung’s 7-inch Android tablet, the Galaxy S is meant to compete against Apple’s upcoming 7-inch iPad. That’s just speculation for now, and, if you ask me, Samsung shouldn’t try to compete against a product that’s not even official yet. After all the 9.7-inch iPad is the tablet that’s selling like hot cakes around the world and a 7-inch alternative response to it might not be enough.

It will be interesting to see whether Apple will indeed announce a smaller, cheaper tablet in the following days, and in case it does, then Samsung’s Galaxy Tab will be in trouble this holiday season. Apple has been doing a great job at selling its mobile devices, including iPods, and I’m sure a 7-inch tablet will also be very well welcomed by tablet shoppers that want a smaller device, even if the iPad itself is not a perfect tablet.

At the same time the 9.7-inch iPad will probably keep selling very well, especially now that Apple seems to have ramped up production. It’s no wonder that other manufacturers are also coming up with 10-inch tablet versions meant to fight the original iPad, so we can’t wait to see how the Galaxy Tab will do out in the open.

What would you choose between a 7-inch iPad and a 7-inch Galaxy Tab?

And notice how quickly this “article” turns from a 7″ inch Samsung Tab to an Apple iPad “article”.

      Why even bother?

    2. Paul says:

This is all well and good with the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and can’t wait to see what Samsung has to offer…..The problem is that when Apple makes an announcement, the product is available almost immediately, or shortly after the announcement. With other companies…it’ll be like “available in the second quarter of 2011! This is where Apple has a clear cut advantage, when products are announced!

    3. Frank says:

Who says New Samsung Galaxy will only compete with the IPAD 2
it’ll do it also with the first one too.
Samsung is not stupid, they know exactly what they are doing and they also know the limitations of the iPad.

    4. Gary says:

Id rather a larger screen anyway, so screw the 7 inch. Keep it 9 inches and add a freaking camera Steve. Get with the program. And why did you tell them to take away flash.

“Would you like to enable flash Mr Jobs?”
“NO I HATE FLASH. YOUR FIRED!”
