Commodore USA Announce The PC64, A Modern PC Crammed In A Replica C64 Case [Commodore PC64 AIO Computer Will Feature Intel Atom 525 CPU, NVIDIA Ion2 Graphics, 4GB RAM, 1TB Storage & Should Be Available This "Holiday Season"]
Although the Commodore C64 was not the first PC that I used on a regular basis, it was the first one that stuck in my mind, and most likely sealed my fate as a geek. I can clearly remember the times sitting around writing code and making what amounted to nothing more than silly programs and games. I also remember spending way more time than I should have playing Zork.

But my trip down memory lane aside, thanks to the details found in a press release coming from Commodore USA, I may have a chance to relive some of my early computing days. And thankfully, relive those days with a modern system. Granted I can play Zork in a variety of ways today, but I am talking about using a Commodore C64 computer.
According to the details in the press release, the new system will be an all-in-one style keyboard PC and has been dubbed the Commodore PC64. But perhaps a little more exciting (well for me anyway) is that the PC64 will be an ” exact replica of the original beige chassis Commodore C64.” I cannot tell you how often I wished I could buy a C64 and cram it full of modern parts. Now I will not have to.
As for specs, those will include an Intel Atom 525 processor, NVIDIA Ion2 graphics, 4GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, DVD/CD optical drive, HDMI, dual-link DVI, six USB ports, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth and a built-in 6-in-1 media card reader. Furthermore it was noted that the DVD/CD optical drive can be swapped out for Blu-ray.
The only disappointing part so far, we are not sure how much the Commodore PC64 is going to cost. As for when, that was noted as being “available for purchase this holiday season.” Sounds like a nice holiday present for myself will be in order. With that, and while the specs seem powerful enough for daily use I am not sure I would be able to comfortably type on those large keys considering I have been using the newer Apple style keyboard for the last year of so.
