T-Mobile US Partnering With Target

Expect Magenta Phones To Be Sold In Target Near You, Target To Begin Offering T-Mobile Phones And Contracts

T-Mobile is spreading the word via their social networking pages that they’ve entered into an agreement with ‘upscale’ big box retailer Target. T-Mobile phones and plans will be sold at Target stores, which should work out well for both T-Mobile and Target.

Expect to see T-Mobile kisoks in around 850 different Targets around the country. Those should be in place by the end of the year, with the vast majority of Target stores having a T-Mobile store by mid-2011.

The guys at IntoMobile raise an interesting point – will these “Target Mobile” stores start carrying more than one carrier, like Best Buy Mobile? Target tries to promote themselves as being more upscale than competitors Kmart and Wal-Mart. It will be interesting to see if they start carrying phones from Sprint, AT&T and Verizon in their little mobile outlets.

That’s about as far as the announcement goes. Nothing about HSPA+ or Target being the place to pre-order the T-Mobile G2 phones or anything. Hope you aren’t disappointed.

Sound off in our comments section: Do you think T-Mobile going to Target is a good idea? Target has come under some controversy lately for some political contributions of theirs.

It’s a good thing, if they sell Androids. The G2 really has my attention.
