Ohio State's Buckeye Bullet 2 Sets Land Speed Record For Battery Powered Vehicles
If you, like me, thought that battery powered vehicles couldn’t hack it in the speed department, you weren’t alone for the longest time. Lots of people thought like that too. But after the performance of the Buckeye Bullet 2, we’ll all have to have another thought, because they managed to clear 291 miles per hour.
That’s right, folks, the Buckeye Bullet 2, a totally battery powered vehicle, managed to hit just shy of 300 miles an hour, and that’s got to make Monaco carmaker Venturi terribly happy. Why? Because Venturi worked with Ohio State on this one, and the Buckeye Bullet 2 actually represents part of a prototype looking to emerge in 2011.
While the Venturi car likely won’t manage to get 291 miles–though that’d be pretty wild, especially on, say, the Autobahn, the Isle of Man, or certain parts of the United States where there are no speed limits–it’s still going to incorporate a lot of that battery powered system.
So kudos to the speedsters at Ohio State, who, along with Venturi, managed to get a battery powered car going at ridiculous speeds.
