Meijer Stores Roll Out Meijer Find-It [Meijer Stores Look to Offer Internal Positioning to Help Locate Items]
There are now four Meijer stores, somewhere in the Midwest, that will let you download a store map on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and find your way around. They call it Meijer Find-It, and it’s like carrying a “You Are Here” sign at all times.
While it’s pretty clear that GPS wouldn’t work too well inside a building, there are other options to make this work. For instance, there’s cellular triangulation and even Wi-Fi. When you stack all three of these together, you can set them up inside a building and know where you are at all times.
This is actually great for several reasons–I’ve been in several Meijer stores (basically, they’re the Midwest’s answer to Walmart, except not so widespread) and they’re pretty big. It can get fairly easy to get turned around, even if they didn’t regularly change the locations of things. If you don’t shop in a Meijer on a fairly regular basis, it’s easy to not know where they put the motor oil or the olive oil, for that matter.
Meijer Find-It will allow you to, basically, tell where you are, and where the things you want to buy are in relation to you. A great idea, and hopefully one that comes to every Meijer soon.
