Intel Working On Line of Thought Controlled Computers

Progress Is Extremely Slow, Depends on Huge Brain Monitors

As delightful as the thought of a thought-controlled computer is, especially when it comes to word processing, the concept of it is still far off from becoming execution. But if Intel has its way, it’ll be here sooner than we…think.

Intel already has a functioning prototype that can identify simple words like “screwdriver” and “barn” simply by thinking about them. It works by measuring fully 20,000 points of the brain and interpreting the data accordingly.

So you can see that the progress is moving, it’s just that it’s very slow going. Learning how the brain works sufficiently to make devices that can read it are incredible advances in and of themselves, and getting computers to the point where you can think “Open Google, Search for pizza restaurants in Rhode Island, first result” is going to be an extremely difficult and complex process.

Thus we’ll all have to keep an eye on Intel to see where they go with this.
