HTC Droid Incredible Getting Froyo On September 1st?

If you’ve been following the massive growth of Google’s Android open source mobile operating system you already know how successful it has been. Not only has it seen itself become one of the top selling mobile platforms in just two years, it has received immense support from third party hardware manufacturers. As you surely already know, several of these devices such as the Droid X, HTC EVO 4G and Motorola Droid 2 are very high end and rival even the most hard hitting devices currently on the market.

While this immense hardware support is great because it aids in getting the platform out, it could be troublesome for some consumers. The reason for these woes can be attributed to market segmentation regarding the various Android versions. As new hardware continues comes out, Google’s software engineers are hard at work pushing out the latest versions of Android.

As new versions of Android are made available they bring with them some highly sought after features. The latest version, Android 2.2 for instance, brings with it speed improvements along with the ability to run Flash 10.1. Some devices have already managed to grab the update while others are left in the dust. The reason for these delays are largely due to the skins hardware manufacturers lay over the stock Android platform with Sense UI from HTC (pictured above) and TouchWiz from Samsung being perfect examples.

However, while the Android 2.2 roll out has been delayed for several phones, hardware manufacturers are working tireleslly to push the update out in an effort to please consumers. The HTC Droid Incredible, for one, has seen a delayed Android 2.2 roll out with no release date being made official, yet.

Luckily, today, rumors have surfaced that say the HTC Droid Incredible for Verizon Wireless will be getting the Android 2.2 update on September 1st. It’s also expected that the Droid Incredible will be getting 720p HD video recording with the Froyo update.

September 1st is just about a week away from the date of this posting so those of you worried you’ve been forgotten, you can now rest easy.
